Sleepy Hollow sits right on the Hudson, and its parks have flat, paved areas that work well for skating. Devries Park and the riverfront give students room to learn without heavy foot traffic or distractions.
Connected to Tarrytown and the River Path
Tarrytown is right next door, and the shared-use path along the Hudson connects both villages. Once a student can push and turn confidently, this path is one of the best places in Westchester for longer rides.
Sleepy Hollow is a small village on the Hudson River, just north of Tarrytown and about 30 miles from Manhattan. Most people know the name from Washington Irving, but the village itself is a quiet, walkable community with a growing number of young families. There’s no skateparkhere, which means beginners can learn without the pressure of more experienced riders around. Leon drives up from New Rochelle — about 25 to 30 minutes depending on traffic.
The Old Croton Aqueduct trail runs through the village and connects to Tarrytown and Irvington, making it a good corridor for students who want to practice cruising once they’re comfortable on the board. Sleepy Hollow’s parks and riverfront areas are well-maintained and see moderate use, so there’s enough space to work without feeling isolated or crowded. Leon also covers Tarrytown, so if a spot on that side works better for you, he’ll meet you there.

Leon teaches at parks and open spaces in Sleepy Hollow and the surrounding area. Here are the main spots.
Devries Park
A neighborhood park with flat pavement and open space for working on balance, pushing, and basic turns. Leon uses this spot for beginners and younger students who need a calm, low-traffic area to get comfortable on the board.
Barnhardt Park and Riverfront
Paved areas near the riverfront with flat surfaces and a relaxed setting. Good for students who are ready to practice cruising and turning, or for first-timers who want a scenic spot to learn.
Your Driveway or Neighborhood
Some students prefer to start at home, especially younger kids. If you have a flat driveway or a quiet street, Leon is happy to come to you and run the lesson right in your neighborhood.
What to Expect
Despite the famous name, Sleepy Hollow is a tight-knit residential community — and its quieter streets and riverfront paths make solid spots for skateboard lessons. Leon comes to you, often meeting students at Barnhardt Park near the waterfront, at Devries Park, or even in a driveway with enough flat space. New skaters start with the basics: finding their stance, standing on the board, and learning to push and stop. Returning students keep progressing from wherever they left off.
Lessons run about an hour. If you need a board, Leon can bring one, though having your own is encouraged. Wear flat-soled sneakers — no running shoes or anything with a raised heel.
