Leon teaches throughout Fairfield County and drives out regularly to meet New Canaan students at their homes or at Waveny Park, with no extra charge for the trip.
Most of Leon’s New Canaan students are kids whose parents want something different from soccer and lacrosse—something individual, physical, and a little outside the usual rotation. Adults book too, sometimes picking it up alongside their kids, sometimes on their own after years of wanting to try. The at-home format works well here because the town has plenty of flat, paved space to work with.

New Canaan doesn’t have a public skatepark, but there’s no shortage of good places to learn.
Your Driveway or Flat Outdoor Space
The most popular option in New Canaan. A smooth driveway or garage apron gives beginners a controlled surface with no distractions. Leon brings everything needed and works with whatever space you have. This is especially good for younger kids who do better in a familiar setting.
Waveny Park
Waveny has paved paths and open parking areas that work well for practicing balance, pushing, and turns. The park is large enough that there’s always a quiet corner to work in, and the flat stretches give students room to build speed and confidence before moving on to more advanced terrain.
Scalzi Park Skatepark (Stamford)
About 15 minutes south in Stamford, Scalzi Park has a proper skatepark with ramps, ledges, and a bowl. Leon takes students here once they’ve built up the basics and are ready for features. It’s the closest dedicated skatepark to New Canaan and a natural next step after driveway sessions.
What to Expect
New Canaan is quiet, residential, and spacious — which turns out to be ideal for learning to skate. Most students here take lessons on their driveway or a nearby flat stretch, and Leon travels to whatever spot works best. Waveny Park is another option if you want a change of scenery and some paved paths to roll on. The lesson always starts with what you’re working toward. Brand-new skaters learn stance, balance, and pushing. If you’ve been at it for a while, Leon picks up where you left off — turning, kickturns, dropping in, whatever’s next.
Each lesson is about an hour. Having your own board is encouraged, but Leon can bring one if needed. Flat-soled sneakers and clothes you can move inare all that’s required on your end. Helmets are required for anyone under 18. For students ready to progress to a skatepark, Stamford’s Scalzi Park is within reach.
