New Rochelle is where Leon lives and skates every day. He grew up here, and most of his regular practice sessions happen at Lincoln Park or somewhere along the waterfront—one of many skateparks across Westchesterwhere he teaches. That matters for lessons because he doesn’t need to scout a location or figure out parking — he already knows which sections of pavement are smoothest, which corners stay dry after rain, and when each spot gets busy.
The city has been adding new sidewalks and paved areas downtown over the last several years as part of the development around Main Street and the train station. Some of those newer surfaces are surprisingly good for skating. Leon keeps track of what’s been repaved and works newer spots into his lesson rotation when they make sense. For students who want to eventually skate on their own around town, learning here means you’re already familiar with the terrain.

New Rochelle Skatepark (Lincoln Park)
The town's dedicated skatepark with ramps, rails, and flat sections. Leon uses it for skaters who want to work on tricks and transitions, and the flat area is great for beginners getting comfortable on the board.
Hudson Park Waterfront
Smooth pavement along the waterfront with open space and a relaxed atmosphere. Leon teaches here when students want a flat, uninterrupted surface for cruising, pushing, and building confidence.
Five Islands Park Area
A quieter spot with paved paths near the water. Good for students who want to learn away from a busy skatepark setting, especially younger kids or adults who are just starting out.
What to Expect
This is Leon’s home turf. He skates New Rochelle every day, which means he knows exactly which surfaces are smoothest, which spots stay dry after rain, and where to go when you’re ready for more. New skaters start with stance and balance at a flat spot that fits their comfort level. Experienced riders can head straight to the skatepark at Lincoln Park to work on tricks, drops, and transitions.
Lessons run about an hour. Flat-soled sneakers and clothes you can move in are all you need. Leon can provide a board if you don’t have one, though having your own lets you practice what you learned between sessions. Helmets are required for students under 18.
