Parents here invest in their kids’ activities — but skateboarding hasn’t been on the menu locally. There’s no skatepark, no after-school skate program, nothing through parks and rec. Leon changes that by bringing lessons directly to the parks and streets families already know.
The town sits right next to Bronxville and Tuckahoe, so Leon often teaches students from all three areas in the same afternoon. The paved areas around Lake Isle give students flat, open space to work on stance, pushing, and turning. Less foot traffic than the bigger parks nearby, so there's room to spread out.
Cooper Field
A local field with smooth pavement along the edges. Leon uses it for beginner drills and balance work. It's tucked into the neighborhood, so it stays quiet during lesson times.
Leewood Park
Walkways and paved sections with enough space to practice without dodging people. A good spot for younger students who need a calm setting to build confidence.
Residential Streets
Some of the best practice surfaces in Eastchester are the wide, quiet residential streets in the CDP. Leon scouts these ahead of time and picks stretches with smooth pavement and low traffic.
What to Expect
Leon drives to Eastchester with everything needed for your session—you just pick the time. He starts by figuring out where you are skill-wise. If the board is brand new to you, that means learning stance and how to pushon the smooth pavement around Lake Isle or Cooper Field. Students who’ve been skating pick up where they left off, whether that’s turning, stopping, or trying something new.
Each lesson runs about an hour. Bring your own board if you have one—if not, Leon can provide one for the session. Flat-soled shoes work best (no running shoes with thick heels), and wear something you can move around in. Helmets are required for anyone under 18.
