The Palava Hut
In West African tradition, the palava hut is where people gather to talk, resolve disputes, share stories, and build community. It is an open structure with no walls. Everyone is welcome. The conversations happen face to face, not through screens.
Palava takes that idea and brings it to skate culture. A physical space where skaters, families, and curious newcomers can meet, learn, hang out, and be part of something. A skate shop that carries boards and gear from independent makers. A cafe where you can sit after a session. A community room for clinics, film screenings, and events.
Leon Toppin has spent 20+ years teaching skateboarding across New York City and Westchester. Palava is where that work becomes something permanent. A home base for the community he has been building one lesson at a time.
What Palava Will Be
Skate Shop
Boards, trucks, wheels, and gear from independent and community-focused brands. Curated, not corporate.
Cafe
A place to sit before or after a session. Coffee, food, and a reason to stay longer than you planned.
Community Space
Clinics, film nights, art shows, skate meetups. A calendar of reasons to show up and be part of something.
Lesson Hub
A home base for Leon's private and group instruction. A place where students can meet, warm up, and debrief after sessions.
