Skateboard Lessons in the Bronx

The Bronx is where I grew up and where I first fell in love with skating. Teaching here feels personal, and I want every student to experience that same energy.

Why Skate in the Bronx

Where It Started for Me

The Bronx is my home borough. I learned to skate on these streets, and coming back to teach here is something I never take for granted. There's a special energy in sharing this with people from the neighborhood I grew up in.

Great Parks, Less Crowding

The Bronx has solid skateparks that don't get nearly as packed as spots in Manhattan or Brooklyn. That means more space, more board time, and a calmer environment for building skills at your own pace.

A Growing Skate Community

Skating in the Bronx is picking up. More people are getting on boards, and the community here is friendly and supportive. Learning now means getting in early and growing alongside the scene.

Popular Lesson Locations

Leon teaches across the Bronx at parks he knows well. Here are the spots students love most.

Seton Skatepark

South Bronx

A solid park in the South Bronx with smooth concrete and a good mix of features. Leon likes this spot for its welcoming atmosphere and the space it gives students to practice without pressure.

Van Cortlandt Skate Park

Van Cortlandt Park

Set inside one of the Bronx's biggest green spaces, Van Cortlandt has a solid layout for all skill levels. The surrounding park paths are great for cruising sessions, and the whole area has a relaxed, open feel.

Mount Eden Skatepark

Mount Eden

A neighborhood park with clean features and a friendly local crowd. Leon uses the mix of flat ground and smaller obstacles here to help beginners build confidence step by step.

River Ave Skatepark

Concourse

Located near Yankee Stadium, River Ave has a compact but well-designed layout. It's convenient for students coming from anywhere in the south Bronx, and the park's size makes it easy for Leon to keep lessons focused.

What to Expect

Every lesson starts with a conversation. Leon wants to know where you are, what you’re hoping to learn, and what feels comfortable. No assumptions, no rigid plan. Just honest coaching built around you.

New skaters usually begin with stance, balance, and pushing. Those are the skills that make everything else possible. From there, Leon introduces turning, stopping, and basic maneuvers. Intermediate students work on whatever is next for them, whether that’s dropping in, kickflips, or just getting more comfortable cruising around the neighborhood.

Each lesson is about an hour. Bring water, wear closed-toe shoes, and dress comfortably. Leon can provide a board if you don’t have one yet. Helmets are required for all students under 18 and strongly recommended for adults.
