Rye Brook is a small village in the Blind Brook-Rye Union Free School District, tucked between Rye and Port Chester. It’s the kind of community where families know their neighbors and kids walk to school. The village has good parks, clean sidewalks, and a real sense of safety — which is exactly what parents look for when their child wants to try something new on wheels.
Leon has been teaching in the area for years and knows the terrain. Rye Brook lessons usually start at Pine Ridge Park or Crawford Park, where the pavement is flat and there’s room to work. Beginners learn stance, balance, and pushing. Students who already ride build on what they have — turning, kick turns, and board control on different surfaces. When they’re ready for ramps, Rye Skatepark at Playland is a short drive.

A neighborhood park with paved paths and flat, open areas. Leon uses the paved sections for balance drills and pushing practice. Calm, low-traffic, and close to most Rye Brook homes.
Crawford Park
A larger park shared with Rye, with paths and open pavement. Good for students who need more room to build speed and practice turning. Leon uses it when conditions are right for longer runs.
Rye Skatepark (Playland)
The closest skatepark to Rye Brook, located at 1 Playland Parkway in Rye. Leon brings students here once they're comfortable on flat ground and ready for ramps, transitions, and dropping in.
What to Expect
Leon comes to you. Lessons happen at a park or on a quiet street near your home in Rye Brook. New skaters learn stance, how to push, and how to stop safely. Students who already ride build from wherever they are — turns, manuals, kick turns, or getting comfortable at the skatepark.
Sessions last about an hour. Leon can provide a board if your child doesn’t have one yet, but having their own to practice with between sessions is encouraged. Flat-soled sneakers are a must — the first lesson guide covers what to bring and what to expect. Helmets are required for students under 18.
